While secondary students are taking their MCA tests the groups who are not testing are out and about in the community! The ninth graders are at the LCARC hearing from area businesses about possible careers and the seniors are helping at the elementary!

This year's president Abigail Swalve led our ceremony and Mrs. Sara Purvis Rose, LCWM School Board, was the guest speaker. The LCWM-Nicollet girls and boys track teams both won the Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet Monday at MSU-Mankato. The girls were led by Katelin Flack, who scored the maximum number of points possible, winning four events for 32 points. Michael Matteson led the boys with two firsts and two seconds for 28 points. Event winners for girls included Flack in the 55, 200, 400 and shot put; Lauren Cooper in the High Hurdles and Low Hurdles; Maggie Graupman in the Triple Jump; and Lucy Richards in the Pole Vault. Event winners for the boys included Matteson in the High Jump and Triple Jump; Izaak Thorson in the 55 and 200; Lucas Pietan in the 400; Christian Fells in the 800; Ethan Grannis in the pole vault; Logan Sandmeyer in the long jump; and the boys 4x400 relay team made up of Pietan, Sandmeyer, Jacob Cooper and Fells. March 26-28 (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday), students participated in the Minnesota state FCCLA conference and competition. Students completing were: Lauren, Jasmine, Adam, Kiera, Aidan. The LCWM chapter received awards for 2023 MN FCCLA Region Star Events and for 2023 MN FCCLA State Star Events. These awards are awarded to chapters that achieve Gold standards for their STAR events. Kiera qualified to compete at the National FCCLA competition in Denver, CO. this summer with her Job Interview STAR event project and will be representing LCWM and MN! All the students did an awesome job. Congratulations on your achievements!

On March 10, six students from LCWM participated in the annual Trig Star competition at South Central College. The Trig Star program is an annual competition that recognizes the best students of trigonometry from schools throughout Minnesota. The Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors, Chapter One, sponsored the event. In our chapter, over 75 students from five area schools participated. LCWM participants were Hope McLeod, Abby Groos, Isabelle Wawrzynaik, Maggie Graupman, Kiera Kirchner, and Kianna Siebert. Maggie was recognized as the overall 4th place finisher, with a score of 94% in just over 33 minutes. Congratulations!

Mrs. Caldwell’s 5th Grade (3rd Trimester) Social Studies class has been learning theories about Pangea and how people may have migrated to America via the land bridge or by boat. They experienced how difficult it was to carve arrowheads with rocks and deer antlers by carving with soap.

The LCWM Speech went to Sub-Sections yesterday in Fairmont and represented us well! All 5 speakers earned trips to the Section competition. From L-R: Brooke Maurer, 4th in Poetry, Olivia Beecher, 6th in Informative, Destiny Alberty, 1st in Extemp Reading, Ceiliah Slama, 5th in Informative, and Morgan Klinkner, 3rd in Informative. LCWM was ranked 3rd in the Sub-Section based on points earned. They will be traveling to JWP on April 14 for the Section Tournament. Congrats and good luck!
