Children & Family Services

If you wish to access any of the services listed below, your request will be screened by a team of professionals to determine how best to meet the needs of your family. The Children and Family Services Department will make every effort to respond in a timely manner to your request, but you may be asked to wait or may be given service alternatives until a case manager is available to serve your family.
Adolescent Chemical Dependency – An Assessment worker will complete an in-depth interview with a child/adolescent, parent(s) and related others to determine if chemical dependency services are needed. This assessment can be done voluntary or court ordered. Call (507) 304-4444 for more information.
Child Protective Services (Intake) – Serving families on either a voluntary or court-ordered basis to address child maltreatment determinations. A plan is developed to address child safety and/or concerns of neglect. A social worker will provide assistance and support to the family to ensure a plan is completed. Children’s Mental Health Services (304-4444) – Providing education and prevention, early identification and intervention, emergency services, outpatient services, family community support, treatment screening, case management, therapeutic support of foster care, and professional home-based family treatment services to children with severe emotional disturbance and their families.
Family-Based Services – Provided for those families with children in which there is an identified need for improvement of family relationships and parenting skills.
Financial Assistance
This division of Human Services provides financial assistance to persons who qualify. Persons must fill out a formal application in order to have eligibility determined. Sexual Violence Resource Center

SVRC provides a 24-hour crisis response service for victims of any form of sexual violence, including: adult sexual assault, incest, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation by professional, obscene phone calls, stalking, exposing and recent and non-recent assault. Advocates offer victims options, while providing support, education, and assistance. At the request of a victim, the advocate can be present during the medical exam, law enforcement interview, and throughout the court process. Female and male advocates are trained to understand the difficulty involved in deciding whether to report a sexual assault as well as the challenges victims face in recovering from this type of violence. Ongoing assistance is available to all victims and concerned others in the form of one-to-one counseling, support groups, education, systems advocacy to protect victim rights, and referral to other types of assistance available to victims in an effort to further their emotional recovery.
