LCWM Honors Triple A and ExCEL Award Winners

Each year, the Minnesota State High School League invites schools to nominate one boy and one girl for both the Triple A Award (for seniors) and the ExCEL Award (for juniors). The LCWM winners were recognized at the boys’ basketball game on February 19, 2024.

The ExCEL award (which stands for Excellence in Community, Education, and Leadership) is awarded annually to high school juniors who participate in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who volunteer in their communities.

LCWM’s male nominee for the ExCEL award is Max Magnus. Max is the son of Amy Magnus. He is active in football, basketball, track and field, band, National Honor Society, Science Fair, and Junior High Knowledge Bowl. Max is active in the community through participating in the LCWM Hope Squad, Community Education sports camps, and in activities in his church.

LCWM’s female nominee for the ExCEL award is Chloe Sargent. Chloe is the daughter of Josh and Sheri Sargent. She is active in cross country, basketball, track and field, band, Project 4 Teens (P4T), National Honor Society, Student Council, and the LCWM Hope Squad. Chloe participated in the state track and field meet in 2023 in the 4 x 400 relay. She is active in the community through participating in various church activities such as the church nursery and single mother childcare as well as through various National Honor Society community activities.

The Triple “A” Award (which stands for Academics, Arts, and Athletics) honors high school seniors throughout Minnesota who have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and who participate in Minnesota State High School League sponsored athletic and fine arts activities. Each nominee fills out an application, writes several essays, and gets a letter of recommendation from a school staff member.

LCWM’s male nominee for the Triple A award is Jacob Cooper. Jacob is the son of Tom and Gina Cooper. He is active in cross country, track and field, Knowledge Bowl, band, choir, and National Honor Society. Jacob has participated in the boys’ state cross country meet as a member of the section 2A champion team as well as the boys state track and field meet as a member of the 4 x 800 relay. He is also active in the community through helping many hours in the Lake Crystal Community Garden as well as various other service projects around Lake Crystal. Jacob plans to attend Minnesota State University, Mankato, this fall and is undecided on his major.

LCWM’s female nominee for the Triple A award is Katelin Flack. Katelin is the daughter of Keith Flack and Angie Schuck. She is active in cross country, basketball, track and field, band, choir, 4H, Science Fair, Math League, and National Honor Society. Katelin has participated in two girls state basketball tournaments and four state track and field meets. She is also active in the community through attending the Hugh O’Brien leadership conference, participating in various church activities, and participating in Celebrate Me Week as a camp counselor. Katelin plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College this fall and major in pre-med.

Not only is Katelin the LCWM nominee, but she was selected as the section 2A subsection 5 winner. Katelin then went on to become the section 2A winner. Katelin will now compete for the statewide Triple A award against seven other female section winners. She will be honored at a banquet during the boys’ state basketball tournament and also featured on TV during a live awards ceremony.

LCWM is proud to recognize these four outstanding students and congratulates them on all of their accomplishments.
