MDE Coronavirus Information

February 27, 2020

Dear parents and families,

As public health officials expected to happen, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has been found in the United States. It is important to know that at this time there are no known human cases in Minnesota. It's also worth noting that generally the risk of people in Minnesota schools becoming sick with coronavirus disease is very low. We continue to monitor the latest developments because the safety of the people in our schools is our top priority. We are in close contact with the Minnesota Department of Public Health and receive updates from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure our school district has the latest information.

Basic health preventions continue to be useful—especially during cold and flu season:

  • Consider getting a seasonal flu shot. It's not too late!
  • Cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Encourage frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Children stay home from school until fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication.

Anyone with specific questions or concerns is asked to contact Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial’s health care professional Licensed School Nurse, Jess Thormodsgard at 507-726-2110.

As always, if your student is absent from school, please notify your child’s office secretary regarding the absence.

Sincerely,

Tom Farrell

Superintendent
