Academic Pentathlon Headed to Nashville
LCWM Academic Pentathlon Wins State For Third Consecutive Year and Advances to Nationals
The LCWM Academic Pentathlon team placed 10th out of 42 competing teams from across the United States at the state level competition held April 3, 2019. With LCWM having the highest score from Minnesota, they are the state champions and have earned a trip to the national Academic Pentathlon competition to be held May 15-18 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Members of the LCWM Academic Pentathlon team are:
Honors: Austin Kilmer, Lauren Cooper, and Gabe Kietzer;
Scholastic: Christian Fells, Abby Groos, and Lucy Richards;
Varsity: Logan Anderson and Levi Lantz;
Team coach is Billy James.
This is LCWM’s third year of competition in the Academic Pentathlon. For the national competition, students will take written exams in fine arts, literature, math, science, and social science and write an essay. They will also participate in the “Super Quiz” event, which is a team event where students answer 30 questions in front of their peers. Teams appearing at the national competition will represent the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. The theme for the 2018-2019 competition season is the “1960s.”
Team members earned 9 medals at the state level competition. Earning medals were:
* Abby Groos (scholastic): third in fine arts, first in math, and third in social science.
* Logan Anderson (varsity): second in fine arts, first in literature, first in math, second in science, and third in social science.
* Levi Lantz (varsity): third in math.
The team’s highest scoring student was Abby Groos. Logan Anderson earned a medal in each event.
