The Personal Finance Decathlon is an opportunity for students to test their knowledge in ten areas of personal finance including thinking economically, earning income, paying taxes, budgeting, saving, financial planning, investing, borrowing, banking and financial institutions, and insuring. Students will prepare a case study analysis of a fictional family’s financial situation to present to a selected panel of judges. The four top teams will then present their findings to a full panel of judges to determine the state champion. Over 400 students from across Minnesota participated in the qualifying competition. Students competing at the state competition represent the following schools: Albany Area Senior High, Faribault High School, Hopkins High School, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Secondary School, Morris Area High School, Mounds View High School, Robbinsdale Armstrong High School (Plymouth), Roseau High School, St. Michael-Albertville Senior High, St. Thomas Academy (Mendota Heights), Ulen-Hitterdal Secondary, and Underwood High School. The state champion will go on to compete in the National Finance Decathlon in May in Lincoln, Nebraska. This will be LCWM’s 9th appearance at the state competition.
