• 2020-2021 Season Academic Decathlon Coach

    Coaching duties and responsibilities include:

    • Establish and maintain an Academic Decathlon team
    • Conduct selection process for determining team members from year to year
    • Supervise team members during practices and competitions (when allowed)
    • Foster an environment conducive to learning
    • Nurture academic skills
    • Establish and implement practice schedules for the team
    • Promote and maintain positive relationships among team members
    • Order materials for all students and coach
    • Prepare transcripts, permission forms, and any necessary paperwork
    • Attend coaches’ meetings
    • Prepare students for competitions through reading the materials and preparing for the subjective events of speech, interview, and essay
    • Travel over night with students to state and national competitions
    • Fundraise for any costs associated with attending the national competition
    • Keep parents informed of competition dates, national plans, etc.

    Interested persons should possess the following qualities:

    • Ability to work with students in grades 9-12 and in a small group setting
    • Possess free time for approximately 4 hours of practice per week (including weekends)
    • Flexibility to work around the schedules of students
    • Be free of conflicts on competition days
    • Organizational skills
    • Motivational skills
    • Detail-oriented
