WELCOME TO FIFTH GRADE!
Looking forward to a great year with fun and challenging experiences!
We have an exciting year planned for our fifth graders. Our classroom hosts the Knight Squad. We expand upon the program which starts in fourth grade. We still go out into the classrooms in our school and help teach about a variety of technology related things, but we also incorporate more technology within our every day learning. We are also involved with the Knightline News which is published weekly (in video format). You can see some of our past and present broadcasts by going to www.theknightsquad.wordpress.com.
These are just some of the many things we incorporate into our classrooms. Of course, we are still reading, writing, and doing a lot of math, science and social studies. We have a brand new math curriculum to work with this coming year. Mr. Altermatt will be teaching my homeroom and his math, while I teach them reading.
We aim to help students realizes that technology is a tool, used to impact and make their lives more productive. You can never seem to take the "game" out of a fifth grader, but hopefully they will understand that there is so much more to the world of technology than gaming. We do not allow free use of games during our day at school. We have various ways to monitor and control gaming and social media.
Students in grades K-5 have access to 1-1 chromebooks or iPads. They are not allowed to take them home. In fifth grade we also have access to a program that will become a large part of their future schooling. It is called Schoology. Stay tuned for our Fall open house where you can learn more about fifth grade!
Please email or call during school hours (leave message).
My school hours are 7:45-3:45
Since we are so busy during the day, it can be difficult to get in touch with me. Please leave a message via Seesaw or with the office and I'll get back to you. I check my email before school and after school. Seesaw is more readily available but if I don't respond, please assume I didn't get the message yet.
