Ms. Deckard's reading groups follow the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) curriculum and PRESS intervention system. LLI system uses a combination of reading, writing and phonics/word study. It also focuses on comprehension strategies. The LLI system uses original, engaging leveled books to help support reading and writing and helps students expand their knowledge of language and words and how they work. Our goal is to bring students to grade-level achievement in reading. PRESS uses a targeted approach to reach students and focus on the skills they are struggling with.
The rest of the adults in our room focus on Minnesota Reading Corps reading interventions, PRESS interventions and supplemental curriculum materials.
In math, students work on various topics such as math facts, comprehension and math computation using a math intervention called FOCUS math.
